These features allow you to set a custom name, and profile photo. Users can either select a profile photo directly from your photo gallery, or even use custom Memoji or Animoji. 

STEPS TO SET A NAME & PROFILE PHOTO ON iMESSAGE

• Move to the messages app, and click on the three dots icon. Click on Edit Name, and Photo.

• iPhone offers Memoji, users can create or skip this step. For setting your profile photo just click on Choose Name, and Photo. If you’ve already done it, then proceed to the next step.

• Select a photo from the gallery by clicking All Photos or click on the ‘Camera icon to click a selfie. Users can select an Animoji or a Memoji. Once finished, click on ‘Done’.

• Now you’ll be asked to use that particular photo in your Apple ID, and My Card in contacts. Accept by clicking on use or ignore by clicking ‘Not Now’.

• Once you set your profile photo, you can key in your first, and last name. 

• Also, users can select to share your profile name, and photo with. There are 2 options- Contacts Only, and Always Ask. The Latter is better for privacy. 

Users can also access the option from Settings>Messages>Share Name, and Name.
